The Oulton Park Gold Cup is the North West’s premier historic race meeting and once again provided a superb race programme featuring historic single seaters, sports, touring and saloon cars on the classic 2.6 mile undulating circuit.
As the Gold Cup this year was on the same weekend as the Coventry Festival of Motoring, the Jaguar Heritage support was somewhat limited – the main focus being the final round of the E-type Challenge race series.

This was again a double hander with a grid of 17 cars lining up for Sunday’s race and a slightly smaller grid of 14 cars on the Monday.
The racing was fast and furious with last season’s front runner, Jon Minshaw, back in contention once again. In the first race the dominant driver from previous rounds, Alex Buncombe, retired with a gear selection problem; this left the field clear for a close battle between the Minshaw brothers, with Jason edging out Jon in the closing stages to secure his first series victory.

With his car repaired, Alex dominated in the second race, moving from last place on the grid to first place in the race in just a couple of laps! Jon Minshaw once again held onto second place with third place honours going again to the car of Dave Coyne and Chris Scragg.
Class B honours went to Roger Cope in both races while the Class A2 wins were shared between Paul Castaldini in race 1 and Peter Burton in race 2.

Jon Minshaw second and Chris Scragg and Dave Coyne third. |
| This was the final round of the E-type Challenge in 2012. With 10 races over five weekends in the UK, France and Germany and with grids of up to 36 cars, this has been another successful season which has seen plenty of competitive and exciting racing. |
